When my new wife and I were planning our honeymoon, I wanted to see if there was anything car related going on near London that I would not want to miss. A place called the Brooklands Museum had an event going on called Supercar Sunday the same time we would be over. “You’d be stupid not to go” said the wife. So we went.
We took the Underground to Wimbledon, then took a train to Weybridge. From there we made our way to the historic grounds of the Brooklands Museum.
The Brooklands was the world’s first dedicated motorsports track, operating from 1907 up until World War II. Some of the original track still remains, and you can walk up to it. These banked turns are massive and I can only imagine how insane it was to hurdle through this track in a pre-war race car.
Speaking of historic race cars, they have plenty of them in permanent exhibitions from all eras. They also have a lot of old motoring memorabilia as well.
This F1 car along with another F1 car from the early nineties would be used later for laps around the Mercedes Benz World test track. If you have never heard one of these... oh what a sound.
As for the show itself, wow. You ever play Forza Horizon? You ever think it was an impossible situation? Well, dreams can be real.
Lime green and parked next to a Ford GT, this little car stole the show.
Biggest surprise with seeing a Miura for the first time is how the V12 looks so huge in it. It is a small amount of car wrapped around a lot of motor.
And look at how similar its profile is to a Ford GT! What else was next to the Miura you ask?
I could hear the theme from Need for Speed II while I stood next to the big Jag. This was an icon to me growing up and to see it in person being driven in its home country... just no words for how right it feels.
Hey, guess what? There’s more. Like, a server breaking amount of incredibly cool shit. Prepare yourself.
What could be better than seeing all these cars sitting in one place? Seeing them in action too! Mercedes Benz World is next door, and they let people drive their cars on the test track. To see these cars move and to hear them roar, indescribable.
Mercedes Benz World is a cool place in itself. Part museum, part showroom.
They do driving demonstrations as well.
We ended our day at the Brooklands Museum watching cars from the rear entrance.
What an incredible experience to be around so many high caliber cars. It was very interesting seeing cars that we never got in the States. Its such a shame that TVR has a bad reputation for reliability because I think they are beautiful. And that blue Lancia Delta... mmm! And the Miura... hngh! And the XJ220! I got to hear it and see it move! GAHHH!
Oh, and the Brooklands Museum itself is worth a visit too. I didn’t even touch on the place’s aviation history. Hope you enjoyed my wife and I’s coverage of Supercar Sunday at the Brooklands Museum.

I was gonna say did you visit Mercedes Benz World since it was close by but you did so instead, did you visit the McLaren factory since it is also just down the road?

I did not know the McLaren factory was just down the road! We were pretty beat though but I would’ve sucked up the strength for it. Guess I’ll have to make a second trip! Of course, I’m not sure if they’d let my hillbilly ass in a shiny place like McLaren. I have a bit of a draw and I was conscious of it the whole time I was over.

the Jag is one of the best cars ever. Possibly only beaten by the F1. maybe the Ford GT too, maybe

Oh trust me everybody feels out of place at their factory. Honestly if they weren’t so busy building hypercars and offering catering services (yup the people who built the P1, will do the catering for your reception) they could probably figure out how to make time travel work. That place just feels clever.

And why did you not bring some of those Italians home for RallyDarkstrike? I mean, one itty bitty little Alfa Romeo 8C wouldn’t have hurt, or that 4C....or the FIAT Coupes....or that blue Delta.....or *trails off....*
